Meet Your Friendly Insect Neighbors
Megan Wilson / Entomologist USFS Rocky Mountain Region 2
Mystic Ranger District – Willow Creek Trailhead (Located on the Hell Canyon Ranger District)
So often we hear about the devastating effects of forest insects on the landscape; however, only 1 – 3% of known insect species are considered pests. The Black Hills is home to many beneficial and interesting insect species, from fuzzy bumblebees to caddisflies – nature’s underwater architects. Join Forest staff for an autumn hike, exploring the commonly overlooked insects that call the Black Hills home. NOTE: This hike is taking place just over the border on the Hell Canyon Ranger District.
