Walking through the Past to See the Future Multiple Staff / Recreation, Heritage, and Wildlife Programs – Hell Canyon Ranger District Hell Canyon Ranger District – Meeker Cabin and Historic Area Come explore historic Meeker Ranch, built in 1887 by former Pony Express Rider Frank Cunningham Meeker. Located just outside Custer, the Forest Service acquired the ranch in 2004. Parts of the ranch have been undergoing historic preservation and restoration, including work on some of the buildings. This also includes work on riparian / wetland areas by Forest partners and Heritage and Wildlife staff members.
