Hill City Arts Council presents Plein Air Paint Out

Black Hills Plein Air Paint Out September 17 – 19, 2026 We are a small mountain town located in the beautiful Black Hills of western South Dakota. Since 2001, the Hill City Arts Council has promoted the creative economy in Hill City by providing opportunities for area citizens, students, and visitors to experience art in its myriad forms. Located near two of the world’s largest sculptures — Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse – the Hill City Arts Council hosts four events a year. Fine Arts in the Hills, Plein Air Paint Out, The Hill City Quilt Show and Live On Stage. The Hill City Arts Council has purchased monumental artworks for the town’s Main Street. “Patriarch,” a bronze bison by Peg Detmers and “Iron Star,” a hybrid metal horse sculpture by John Lopez – “the most photographed horse in South Dakota” Celebrate our Black Hills heritage.
